Passport Photo Requirements

Photo specifications

Your passport-style photograph must meet all of the following:

• In color — black-and-white photos are not accepted.
• Printed on matte or glossy photo-quality paper.
• 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size.
• Head size: between 1 inch and 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
• Taken within the last 6 months, reflecting your current appearance.
• Plain white background with no shadows, reflections, or objects behind you.
• Full-face view, directly facing the camera.
• Neutral facial expression with both eyes open.

⚠ No glasses — and no photo-booth prints

Since November 1, 2016, applicants must remove their eyeglasses for U.S. passport photos.

Vending machine / photo-booth prints are NOT acceptable. Have your photo taken by a proper photo service.

Where can I get my photo taken?

Most pharmacies, shipping stores, and office-supply stores offer passport photo service while you wait, including:

AAA	Find an office near you

You can also search online for "passport photographer" near you — just show them these requirements before they shoot.
